Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Ahead

As another year slips into the rearview mirror, I find myself reflecting on the unique blend of triumphs and challenges that inevitably shape a band’s journey. This life as a musician is a constant balancing act. You’re juggling your own personal growth with the collective aspirations of the band, all while navigating the unpredictable nature of the music industry.

Looking back on 2024, I’m struck by the stark contrast between moments of triumphs and the inevitable setbacks that life throws your way. We encountered unforeseen challenges, from the deeply personal to the more logistical. Witnessing a bandmate grapple with the profound grief of losing a loved one while maintaining his commitment to the band was a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the resilience of the human spirit. It’s a testament to the unique bond that forms within a band – a support system that extends beyond the music itself.

These shared experiences, both joyful and sorrowful, weave a rich tapestry that defines our journey as a band. We’ve learned to lean on each other, to offer support in times of need, and to celebrate each other’s successes. It’s a powerful reminder that music transcends individual aspirations and becomes a shared expression of our collective humanity.

Of course, the road to musical “success” – a different meaning for everyone – is rarely paved with gold. Life on the road inevitably presents its fair share of logistical hurdles. Illness, inclement weather, unforeseen equipment malfunctions – these are the realities that can derail even the most well-planned schedule. You learn to adapt, to find creative solutions, and to appreciate the unexpected detours that sometimes lead you to the most interesting places.

A Year of Growth and Discovery

On a more positive note, 2024 was a year of significant growth for the Brianna Rae Band. We expanded our reach, both geographically and in terms of our audience. Our travels took us to new cities, introducing us to new venues and new audiences. We had the privilege of performing at festivals like the Big Turn Music Fest in Red Wing, Minnesota, a truly memorable experience despite the frigid temperatures, and La Crescent Applefest, which was a childhood nostalgia trigger for me. These experiences, both the challenging and the exhilarating, continue to shape our identity as a band.

Our online presence also saw a noticeable increase. While I am a bit ambivalent about the constant demands of social media these days (see my last blog post), I recognize its importance in connecting with our fans and building a community around our music. Finding the right balance between authentic engagement and the pressure to constantly produce content can be challenging. There’s a fine line between sharing your passion and succumbing to the performative nature of social media. But ultimately, it’s about fostering genuine connections with the people who support us, and that’s something I strongly value.

Beyond the Stage: Personal Growth and Reflection

Beyond the stage, 2024 was a year of personal growth and reflection. I’ve learned to be more patient with myself, to acknowledge my limitations, and to celebrate small victories along the way. The pursuit of artistic excellence is a lifelong journey, and it’s important to remember that progress is often incremental.

I’ve also become more mindful of the importance of self-care. The demands of playing can be physically and emotionally draining. It’s crucial to prioritize rest, to nurture my physical and mental health, and to cultivate a healthy work-life balance. These are lessons I’ve learned the hard way, and I’m grateful for the opportunities they’ve presented for personal growth.

Recognition and Reflection

One of the highlights of the year was our nomination for the WAMI awards. While accolades are not the primary motivator for our music, it was a gratifying acknowledgement of our efforts and a testament to the support we’ve received this year. It’s a reminder that our music resonates with people, that it has the power to connect and inspire. WAMI voting begins in February, and it would be our honor if you cast a vote for us.

However, perhaps the most significant growth has been within the band itself. We’ve learned to navigate our individual personalities and work styles more effectively. We’ve developed a deeper understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses, fostering an environment of mutual respect and support. It’s not always easy, of course. There are bound to be disagreements and moments of frustration. But ultimately, we’ve learned to communicate openly and honestly, to prioritize the collective vision of the band, and to celebrate each other’s successes.

Looking Ahead: A Year of Continued Growth and Exploration

As we embark on 2025, I’m filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement. We’re already planning a diverse schedule of shows, exploring new venues and revisiting some of our favorite local haunts. We’re eager to connect with new audiences while maintaining the strong relationships we’ve built with our existing fans.

More than anything, I’m looking forward to continuing to grow as a musician and as a band. To push creative boundaries, to explore new sonic territories, and to share our music with the world.

A Message to our Friends

Ultimately, the success of the Brianna Rae Band is a testament to the unwavering support of our fans. Your presence at our shows, your enthusiasm, and your genuine connection to our music are the driving forces behind everything we do. Thank you for your continued support. It means the world to us.

I don’t know how to say thanks to everybody. On New Year’s Eve, I said to a friend at our show that I wanted to go out and say hello to every single person that came to the show. I recognized so many people out there, and it still warms my heart that you spent your holiday with us. I think I said on the microphone that I’d be gabbing all night, though, and it was best if I just played the show. Seriously, though. I see all of your faces at shows throughout the year, and to see all of you out having a great time and ringing in the new year with us made the night special. Your presence is worth every late night Kwik Trip run!
